Longford Community v PSA Peugeot Citroen
Match Report by Jai
Fivey
On the 25th September at 2 o'clock, PSA Peugeot were away
at Longford Park. It was quite a cold day, but the sun
was trying to come out. The people were starting to
gather and the scene was set for an exciting game.
Peugeot and Longford were both warming up and the ref
blew up for kick off. The two captains went up and the
teams were sorted by the managers. The two teams players
got in to their positions and they were off. The first
ten minutes were up and down and neither of the teams
were settled and the passes were jumpy. After those
first 10 minutes, Peugeot started to get it down and
play. They were on top and the play started to come for
them. After a bit of a good spell in the game, we had a
corner. Matthew Watson knocked in a slotted corner and
Jai Fivey was on the end of it with a side volley.
Peugeot 1 - 0.
Peugeot were on top at this point. Straight after the
goal interval, Peugeot's pressure and closing down came
off, as Danny Fossick closed down a midfielder after the
kick off and he just hoofed it to his keeper. This was a
bad decision, as he lobbed his keeper from about 40
yards, resulting in an own goal and a two goal lead to
Peugeot. About 25 minutes had gone now and Peugeot were
cruising. Things slowed for 7 or 8 minutes as Peugeot
were on top. Suddenly Longford had a free kick on the
edge of the area. Calvin the striker took the free kick
and lobbed Conner Braidy. For the five minutes to the
half it was settled until the ball was knocked down to
Sean Kay who crossed in in to the box and there was no
one better to be there than Sean Kelly who slotted past
their keeper. Then the break came.
Half
time: 3 - 1
The managers had their team talks, the subs were made and
fresh legs were on and the second half began to play.
The first 15 minutes in the second half were slow and a
few freak chances were not taken. Someone needed to take
control and Longford did. They took the ball and started
to play and a few set pieces were made. They had a
corner, it was slotted in and the ref blew up. He said
Stevie Nollett had hand balled it and it was a penalty.
Danny took it and slotted it. After that, Longford were
on top with about 15 minutes left. A ball got knocked
over about two minutes after and Danny slotted it. Now
it was level 3 - 3.
About
5 minutes left now and the tension was high and both
teams wanted to win. Challenges were flying in, tempers
were brewing and people were shouting. It was an intense
atmosphere. Peugeot were back on top and they were tring
to get it up to their strikers. There were two minutes
to go and Peugeot had a new aim. They had a throw in the
last minute. Jordan Wiles picked up the ball for a long
throw. He threw. Stevie flick. Sean Kelly scored and got
the winner. Game Over. Peugeot 4 Longford 3.
