Sunday 13/11/05 Leamington Hibs v PSA Peugeot Citroen

by Ashley Dady

The next round of the Birmingham Cup saw Whitnash Town come to Peugeot's ground. With Peugeot at full strength with a squad of 15 players to select from one change was made from last weeks starting eleven with Matthew Limb starting instead of Richie Bunting.

With the sun in the PSA players eyes during the 1st half the back four coped very well in difficult conditions, with most of the play starting from goalkeeper Adam Harris through the full backs Gavin & Carl.

With Peugeot playing some of their best football this season it was surprising it took until 20 minutes into the match before they took the lead. Some one touch passing down the left saw Tom Redman getting in his cross to Glen Harrison, who set up Josh Hensher to drive his shot passed the stranded Whitnash keeper. This was followed by a succession of attempts on the Whitnash goal only for their keeper to keep the score 1 - 0 up until the half time break.

Half time : Hibs 0 PSA 4

A change at half time saw Richie Bunting coming on for Matthew Limb with almost immediate impact. Richie and Gavin McBride combined down the right hand side and a driven cross saw Glen Harrison inches away from making it 2 - 0. Peugeot were now starting to dominate with the Peugeot back four playing like "Chelsea's" back four, not giving the opposition a moment on the ball. This gave Peugeot the time to get forward and keep Whitnash under pressure.

Peugeot's 2nd came after another build up starting from a quick throw out from Adam released Gavin who knocked a good ball inside to Rob Hayes, who put Richie away down the right wing, A good cross saw Glen "Teddy Sherringham" Harrison skip around his marker and place his shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net to make the score 2 - 0 to Peugeot.

Whitnash pushed forward looking for a way back into the cup tie, but with the back four of Peugeot looking solid it was a difficult task for Whitnash. To complete the scoring, Peugeot saw good pressure from Chris Corkery and his shot was cleared to Richie Bunting 25 yards from goal. He controlled it on his chest before releasing an exquisite chip over everyone into the top corner of the net to complete an excellent all round performance from Peugeot.

Final Score : Hibs 1 PSA 9
