On the coldest and foggiest morning of the year we
travelled to play a Rugby Town team we had only beaten
narrowly at the beginning of the season. Despite the
conditions someone, somehow decided that the pitch was
playable.
We started well, or at least Matty did, and he quickly gave
us a two goal lead with two magnificent strikes. From
then on we dominated the first half with an excellent
passing display on the icy pitch – adding a third goal
with a typical close range goal by Sean Kelly.
Then, at the end of the first half, and just to give Lee
something to moan about during half time, we let Rugby
back into the game when Kuda Chijeche pulled a goal
back.
Half time : Rugby Town 1 PSA 3
The goal at the end of the first half had clearly lifted
Rugby and at the beginning of the second half they
started putting us under a bit more pressure. However,
we were soon three goals ahead again, with the first of
two excellent strikes by Shaun Kay. Two solo goals from
Rugby’s best player, Andy Baker, then briefly threatened
to make the game closer than it should have been before
we quickly re-established a three-goal lead with goals
from Steve Nollett and a second for Shaun Kay. From
then on we controlled the game and ran out comfortable
winners - although I’m not sure Lee, who continued to
shriek from the sidelines, would agree.
Final Score :
